Are the days of Android and IOS coming to an end?

Huawei confirms its working on an independent OS to replace Android

For a long time, rumors have been implying that Huawei is secretly working on a smartphone operating system (OS) to topple the Android market.

Well, the new information is that Huawei is building its own operating system that will replace Android in the coming years. This has been reported in the past, but now Huawei has confirmed the existence of the new OS.

Huawei recently faced a lot of issues when the US government turned suspicious towards the company's telecommunications equipment business. Huawei denied any false practices from their side, but that didn't stop the US from growing wary of the Chinese manufacturer. Recently, the US also asked its allies to eliminate equipment manufactured by Huawei. Regardless of what the actual reason is, the Chinese OEM was forced to presume that major companies like Google might cut ties in the near future. Hence, it would make sense for the company to have a backup plan not only in hardware but in software as well.

Half-baked reports in the past suggested that Huawei was working on a new OS dubbed KirinOS with almost little to no detailed information on the matter.

Earlier, rumors over the Internet stated that the new independent OS would be called “Kirin OS” and would only be available for Huawei devices. We might see the independent OS sometime in the summer.

The new confirmation comes from Huawei's Mobile Products VP, Bruce_Lee. Apart from the confirmation on Weibo, there's nothing much said about the new OS. As per Lee's replies, it can be assumed that the new OS is "under development."

From the looks of it, it seems like Huawei is trying to build an Eco-system for its devices, which we have seen with Google and Apple devices.

Meanwhile, we are seeing a few developments in Google Fuchsia OS as well. For example, Huawei is testing the Fuchsia OS on its Honor Play device.

For months, we have been hearing that Chinese giant Huawei is working on a way to challenge the omnipresent Android.

The reports have been dismissed before, but now, a senior executive from the company has confirmed that an Android alternative is in the works.

He didn't provide any details of the operating system, but previous rumors have hinted that the OS would be based on Linux.

But, why go for a new OS?

The clear reason of developing a new OS remains unknown. But going by US-China ties, Huawei appears to be prepping a backup OS option in case the US government grows skeptical of the company's practices and imposes sanctions restricting the use of American tech.

To recall, ZTE, another Chinese company, has once been denied American technologies, including the official version of Android, pushing it to the verge of bankruptcy.

Plus, Huawei already has its own processors

Huawei phones already use Kirin chips manufactured by its subsidiary HiSilicon.

If the company really brings an independent OS into its phones and tablets, it would be creating its own mobile ecosystem.

Put simply, Huawei could be pulling off an Apple, which uses its own A-series chips and iOS on iPhones and iPads.
